According to a report by True North on June 21, the current Canadian passport office has been delayed due to a shortage of employees, causing applicants to wait hours for their passports. Despite the shortage of employees, the Canadian government has suspended the work of hundreds of unvaccinated employees.
To comply with the Trudeau government’s immunization regulations for federal employees, Service Canada currently has 249 unvaccinated employees being furloughed without pay, resulting in unacceptably long wait times at passport offices across the country .
Before the outbreak, passport offices typically processed between 2 million and 5 million passports a year, but are currently limited to 1.5 million due to understaffing. The head of the ministry said it would not be able to provide a timetable for when delays could be resolved, and advised applicants with urgent travel requirements to contact MPs directly to resolve the issue.
