On June 27, the Office of Cyberspace Administration of Communist China issued the “Regulations on the Information Management of Internet User Accounts”, which will take effect on August 1, 2022, to further control the speech of Internet users.
Some of the speech control measures listed includes:
- The registration of individual Internet users and the account information containing their occupations must be consistent and accurate;
- Institutional accounts must be consistent with their entities;
- Internet users must not falsify the names and logos of political parties, government and military organs, enterprises and institutions, civil groups, social organizations, country names, international organizations, news websites, newspapers, radio and television, and so on.
Also, account information containing China, the central government, the nation, national, or containing the party flag, party emblem, national flag, national anthem, etc. should be strictly controlled. When publishing or posting subsequent messages, shall not use untrue or exaggerated content, do not mislead the public, do not include QR codes, URLs, e-mail addresses, or use homophones, harmonics, numbers, texts, symbols representing expressions with similar pronunciation.
In addition, for violations of this speech control, a fine of between 10,000 and 100,000 Chinese Yuan can be imposed, and the violations can even be brought over to judicial authorities for prosecutions.
Although no government should interfere with citizens’ freedom of speech; however, speech control has been blatantly written into the law by the CCP regime in Communist China.
