According to CTV News, in the second quarter of 2022, many industries are suffering from labor shortages despite record-low unemployment rates across Canada, with restaurants and hotels still the hardest hit.

According to the latest Statistics Canada survey, 64 percent of lodging and dining businesses said they would face a labour shortage in the next three months, the highest rate of any other industry. The number of job vacancies in the industry has now surged to over 13% and continues to be the highest of any industry.

In addition, the labor shortage situation is more reflected in the enterprises with a large number of employees. Employee shortages will be a bigger hurdle in the next three months for larger businesses than smaller businesses with fewer than 19 employees. As a result, employees may need to devote more working hours to resolving labor barriers.
