On May 26th, Philippine President-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who will take office at the end of June, pledged to safeguard the ruling of international law and not allow the Communist China tread on the Philippines’ maritime rights and interests.

The Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) in The Hague, Netherlands, ruled in July 2016 that Communist China’s “nine-dash line” advocate in the South China Sea has no legality under international law and that only the Philippines has the right to exploit natural resources within its 200-nautical-mile exclusive economic zone (EEZ).

On May 26th, Marcos Jr. said we have an arbitration that is in our favor and very important, and we will continue to defend our domain rights by doing so.

Communist China has ignored the ruling of the International Court of Arbitration and has repeatedly colluded with the Philippines for its economic interests.  Outgoing Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte set aside the ruling in exchange for trade and investment commitments.

Marcos said on May 26th, that we have a very important ruling in our favor, and we will continue to safeguard our territorial rights with this.  Not a single millimeter of our maritime coastal rights will be trampled on.

So far, this is the Marcos’ strongest commentary on this sensitive topic.  He underlined that we will always speak with a uncompromising voice in dialogue with Communist China.
