According to a report by CTV News on May 25th, the personal data of patients at several hospitals in the Toronto area was hacked due to a suspected cybersecurity breach. The information that may be stolen includes the patient’s name, birthday, email address, address, pathology report, policy number and diagnosis report.

The head of the local health system said the hospital cybersecurity breach was first discovered earlier this year. As of now, the stolen data has not been found to have been maliciously used by hackers, but patients are advised to monitor their accounts at all times and be vigilant for any possible incidents of fraud and identity theft.

The medical institutions whose patient information was leaked this time include Toronto Mercy Hospital, Scarborough General Hospital, Centennial Hospital, and Ajax Pickering Hospital.
