Xi Jinping has reportedly ordered that the spouses and children of CCP officials at the ministerial level and above be prohibited from directly or indirectly holding overseas assets.

As early as March this year, Xi Jinping reportedly issued an order banning family members of senior CCP officials at the ministerial level and above from holding overseas real estate or shares in overseas registered entities. In addition, Xi also stipulated that senior officials and their immediate relatives are not allowed to open accounts at overseas financial institutions unless they have a valid reason, such as to study or work.

The report noted that the ban has led to some family members of senior officials selling shares in overseas companies. This means that Xi Jinxping is strengthening his grip on the CCP’s domestic political elites ahead of the 20th National Congress.
