Reuters reported on May 24th, that Germany said the European Union may agree to an embargo on Russian oil ‘within days’, as Moscow said it sees growing economic ties with China after being isolated by the West over its invasion of Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told global business leaders in Davos on Monday that the world must increase sanctions against Russia to stop other countries from using “brute force” to achieve their goals.

Many of the EU 27 countries are highly dependent on Russia for energy, so the lack of swift action to impose sanctions has drawn criticism from Kiev.

German Economy Minister Robert Habeck spoke of the sanctions action, “We will have a breakthrough in a few days.”
