U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced Wednesday that the U.S. Embassy in the Ukrainian capital of Kiev has reopened for the first time since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine three months ago, UPI reported on May 18.

We have officially resumed embassy operations in the Ukrainian capital,” Blinken tweeted. We proudly stand with the government and people of Ukraine as they bravely defend their country from Putin’s brutal invasion. Slava Ukraine!”

While celebrating the embassy’s reopening, Blinken warned of “challenges ahead” due to Russia’s “ongoing war” in Ukraine. We reaffirm our commitment to the people and government of Ukraine, and we look forward to fulfilling our mission at the U.S. Embassy in Kiev, he said.
