Recently, the Luxembourg Chamber of Deputies, the Czech Chamber of Deputies’ Foreign Affairs Committee and the chairman of the U.K. House of Commons’ Foreign Affairs Select Committee expressed their support for Taiwan’s participation in the international organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO) by motion, resolution and letters respectively.

On May 17th, the Luxembourgish Parliament passed unanimously a motion for the first time, calling on the Luxembourgish government to strengthen economic, scientific and cultural relations with Taiwan and support Taiwan’s effective participation in the WHO’s technical meetings as an observer. On May 19th, the Czech Chamber of Deputies’ Foreign Affairs Committee adopted a resolution to support Taiwan’s participation in international organizations like WHO, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) as well as their activities for the first time. On the same day, Tom Tugendhat, chairman of the UK House of Commons’ Foreign Affairs Select Committee, addressed letters to Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of the WHO, and Sajid Javid, the minister of UK Department of Health & Social Care, strongly urging to restore Taiwan’s observer status in WHO and invite Taiwan to attend the 75th World Health Assembly (WHA) pursuant to the proposals by the G7 and the WHO’s member states.

The 75th WHA will be held in Geneva, Switzerland, from May 22 to 28. As of May 16th, the WHO has received proposals from 13 member states, which called for Taiwan’s participation. However, as of May 19th, Taiwan hasn’t received the invitation of WHO, who said they would make a decision on May 23th.
