It was reported on May 20, U.S. State Department spokesman Price said at a telephone press conference that the U.S. is concerned about the visits to China’s Xinjiang by U.N. human rights commissioner Bachelet and others, which may be restricted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). And he criticized Bachelet for “remaining silent on the unquestionable evidence of the Chinese Government’s human rights violations in Xinjiang.”

On May 20, The Chinese Foreign Ministry announced that Bachelet will visit Xinjiang from 23 to 28 at the invitation of the Chinese Government. The U.S. Government and human rights groups are increasingly wary that Bachelet’s visit could be manipulated by the CCP to promote misinformation that there have been no human rights violations in Xinjiang.
