The 75th World Health Assembly (WHA) will be held next Sunday (May 22) in Geneva, Switzerland. WHO’s legal adviser, Steven Solomon, confirmed that 13 member states had submitted a motion to invite Taiwan to attend the WHA as an observer. The General Committee will discuss whether or not to put the recommendation on the agenda.
According to the procedure, the General Affairs Committee will discuss whether Taiwan should be included in the supplementary item on the agenda on Sunday evening and make recommendations at the plenary session on the following day (23rd). It is up to the plenary session to decide whether to put it on the agenda or not.
From 2009 to 2016, Taiwan was invited to participate in the WHA as an observer for eight consecutive years. Until after 2017, it was no longer invited to participate. As for the investigation report on the source of the CCP virus (SARS-CoV2), the WHO said that the report was in the final stage and would be sent to member states after completion. The WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus attaches great importance to the report.
