May 12, the U.S. Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission held a hearing on forced organ harvesting in Communist China.

Rep. Christopher Smith

According to the hearing, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is widely regarded as “a harvester and trafficker of forcibly acquired organs.” Available information indicates that the objects of forcible organ harvesting are mainly Falun Gong practitioners, Uyghurs, and other religious and ethnic minorities. Although the CCP claims that all of its organs come from voluntary donations, relevant data show that the number of transplant operations performed in CCP hospitals is far higher than the highest estimates of voluntary ethical donors, casting doubt on the veracity of the CCP’s claims.

The Stop Forced Organ Harvesting Act, introduced in both the U.S. Senate and the House, would impose sanctions on foreign officials and entities responsible for forced organ harvesting. At the hearing, Rep. Christopher Smith, one of the bill’s sponsors, said that the CCP government claims it always puts people first, but facts such as zero-Covid policy in Shanghai and forced organ harvesting have told the world that the CCP has total disregard for human dignity and uses people “as a utilitarian means to an end.” Therefore, we must stop the genocidal and barbaric practice of the CCP’s forced organ harvesting.
