According to a Canadian CTV News report on May 4, the Quebec Public Health Agency announced on the same day that, except in certain places with a higher risk of infection, such as public transportation systems and health institutions, from May 14, it will stop enforcement of the requirement to wear masks in most public places.

Interim public health director Dr. Luc Boileau said that since the data after the Easter weekend in mid-April, the sixth wave of the pandemic had weakened significantly, but whether the regulation would be reinstated in the future would depend on the future development of the pandemic.  At the same time, people would be able to decide whether they should wear masks again according to their own wishes.

The requirement to wear masks in indoor public spaces in Quebec began on July 18, 2020.  Quebec and Prince Edward Island are the last two provinces in Canada to still require masks in indoor public places.  But the latter has preceded Quebec’s announcement that it will drop the mandatory mask requirement from May 6.
