Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Christopher Wray said Sunday that the current scale of espionage and cybersecurity threats from China is “unprecedented,” according to an April 24th report by The Hill. He believes that the greatest threat to the United States comes from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in particular.
Ray made the statement in an interview with CBS News’ “60 Minutes.” He noted that the Chinese communist state’s hacking program is larger than all other countries combined, and has stolen more U.S. personal and corporate data than all other countries combined. The Chinese communist state’s targets cover almost every sector of the economy.
When asked what steps the FBI is taking to defend against a large-scale attack, Ray said, “We are now opening a new Chinese counterintelligence investigation about every 12 hours.” Ray also revealed that there are more than 2,000 ongoing investigations involving all 56 areas of the FBI’s offices.
