March 24 (The Epoch Times) – Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Legislator Wang Ting-yu proposed a bill on March 24 to amend articles 2-3 and 5-3 of the National Security Act. The bill would ban hanging and propagandising the People’s Republic of China’s party, government and military symbols including flags and songs etc. in Taiwan.

Those found guilty of propagandising for CCP bandit and displaying the five-star PRC flag in public places in Taiwan, would be subject to fines of up to NT$50,000. The penalties would be adopted in line with the principle of proportionality. The bill has been expected to be reviewed by the National Security officials as soon as possible.

Seeing the five-star flag is nothing new in Taiwan, but the local communities can’t tolerate activity that display the five-star flag publicly to promote the national identity of the People’s Republic of China. They demand the government to legislate against it.

Wang Ting-yu pointed out that the Communist China has not given up the forceful invasion of Taiwan so far, and that is the only and huge threat to Taiwan.  Based on the principle of reciprocity, national flag or other symbols of the Republic of China are not allowed to exist in the territory of the People’s Republic of China, and may even be criminalized under the National Security Law.

Moreover, judging from the incidents in Ukraine, the people’s hearts and morale of the country are the most important element for national defense. Based on the long terms demand of Taiwan’s mainstream public opinion in Taiwan society, this draft amendment has been proposed, Wang Ting-yu emphasised.

In addition, there are also exclusion clauses in this draft, the symbols used for the international conferences, international events or the related activities approved by Taiwan government, such as participating in the World Games, theater filming, cultural and educational purpose, the Universal Flag, etc. are not subject to the ban.
