The searches were conducted at Huawei’s office premises in New Delhi, neighboring Gurugram and tech hub Bangalore, by the local tax authorities on the grounds of strict investigation into tax evasion, false accounting, or money laundering using shell companies. Among other things, officials from the income tax department looked at Huawei’s financial documents, account books, company records, Indian businesses, and overseas transactions. In addition, the Indian tax officials also seized some relevant documents of the company.

The day before, the Indian government also blocked 54 mobile apps related to the CCP, many of which were confirmed to be owned by major CCP technology companies such as Tencent, Alibaba, and NetEase, citing threats to people’s privacy and national security. India has also asked Google, Apple, and other companies to take down these apps from their mobile software stores in India.
