About 500 Tibetans marched outside of the International Olympic Committee Headquarters on February 4th to protest Beijing’s hosting of the 2022 Winter Olympics. Tibetan protesters from across Europe marched from the IOC building in Lausanne to the Olympic Museum in Switzerland. Meanwhile, there were demonstrations in other cities, including Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Many of the protesters in Lausanne carried Tibetan flags and placards with slogans such as “Boycott the Beijing Winter Olympics,” “Stop Human Rights Violations in Tibet,” and “Games of Shame.”
Demonstrators chanted “No rights, no Olympics,” “Beijing Olympics: Genocide Games,” and “Don’t let Beijing 2022 become Berlin 1936” as they passed by the Olympic rings.
One of the placards shows a skier standing in front of a tank with the five Olympic rings on wheels, recreating the famous scene of a lone protester blocking a column of tanks with his flesh in Tiananmen Square in Beijing in 1989.
The Winter Olympics will be officially opened in Beijing’s “Bird’s Nest” stadium, and although Xi Jinping’s desire is to create a peaceful and prosperous world, he is overshadowed by the human rights issues of Communist China, the CCP Virus, and the personal safety of participating athletes.
