The Beijing Winter Olympics are about to be held, and the Sports Administration Ministry of Educatio Taiwan confirmed on January 26 that in consideration past precedents, the Taiwan Government will not send official representatives to attend, and the Beijing Olympic Games will lead a delegation to assist the athletes in related matters and rights.  The Beijing Winter Olympics opens on February 4, but many countries have expressed diplomatic resistance and will not send government representatives to attend.

It was also stated that considering the limited number of participants in Taiwan, the Bejing Olympic Games will handle matters related to the athletes’ sports competitions, as well as life care services, etc.  As for the opening and closing activities, the government is making an overall careful assessment of the delegation flights, including the players’ participation time, and epidemic prevention considerations.  Explanations to the public will be in due course.

With just over a week to go, the Beijing Winter Olympics have entered the final stages of preparation.  But several countries including the United States, United Kingdom, Australia and Canada, announced that there will be no government representatives, although athletes will still compete normally.  This year Taiwan has four players participating.
