On January 21th, foreign media reported a new development in the extradition case initiated by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in Cyprus against members of the New Federal State of China, as the district court in the resort town of Paphos granted bail to the mother and son of the brothers-in-arms. Bail was set at 25,000 euros per person until the paperwork was completed.
Defense lawyer Efstathios Efstathiou said in a media interview that the CCP sent the extradition request to the Cyprus Embassy in Beijing, the Cypriot foreign minister had no time to authorize the request needed by the court. Without authorization, there can be no extradition. The lawyer also confirmed that the mother and son were members of the New Federal State of China and had been falsely accused by the CCP for divergent political views. It is well known that gender, religion, or political beliefs, among others, cannot be grounds for extradition. The extradition process will take up to 18 months because of the political complexities of the case.
Foreign media pointed out that the New Federal State of China is a U.S.-based group with Political demands to take down the CCP. The extradition case, which has received great attention from Mr. Steve Bannon, former advisor to President Trump, has also received strong support and assistance from the Rule of Law Foundation.
