British vaccines minister Nadhim Zahawi said on September 5 that a decision to vaccinate healthy children aged 12- to 15-years-old had not been taken yet. They are still waiting for the chief medical officers’ advice.

Children are being widely vaccinated already in the United States, Israel and many European countries. British officials have emphasized that 12- to 15-year-olds are already eligible for vaccination.

However, the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) on Friday declined to recommend vaccinations for this group due to a risk of heart inflammation, which is a rare side effect of certain COVID-19 vaccines.
