Ms. Chloé Zhao at 2021 Oscars (Source: AP)

Chloé Zhao, born and raised in Beijing, has won the Oscar for Best Director this past year and became a global media sensation as she is the first Asian woman to achieve this honor. As you might expect, in contrast to the laudatory reporting of Chloé Zhao’s big achievement around the world, the Communist China officials have deleted all the information about Zhao’s Oscar, and nothing can be found in China’s search engine Baidu with the keyword “Chloé Zhao.” Why is the CCP regime so scared of Chloé Zhao’s success?

Just several days before the Oscar ceremony, there were millions of discussions about Zhao’s movie on social media in China with many describing her as the “Pride of China.” Why then did the government censor all information related to her just before the results came out? According to reports, the CCP recently found that in 2015 Zhao had commented on her childhood: “It goes back to when I was a teenager in China, being in a place where there are liars everywhere. You felt like you were never going to be able to get out. A lot of information I received when I was younger was not true…” These statements were made to Filmmaker, an American film magazine, during an interview. This might explain why the Chinese government banned all reports on Zhao because they found the “Pride of China” had dared to speak the truth about the Communist regime and the CCP as it attempts to maintain its dictatorship by constantly lying to the people.

In addition, what must have shocked and likely caused the CCP to feel insecure about its domination is that people, including Zhao, who care about the truth and understand how the CCP operates, proved that the Chinese people could achieve higher levels of success when they are unshackled from the CCP. Zhao is not the first who has enjoyed great success only to be censored by China’s media. There are other examples, including

Gao Xingjian, the first Chinese who won the Nobel Prize in Literature, fled to France to seek asylum because he participated in the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989. After his escape, of course, all of his works were banned in China.

Liu Xiaobo, the first Chinese awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, died in the 9th year of his 11 years prison term for his political criticism of the CCP’s dictatorship. And last, but not least, Hao Haidong, who currently holds the record for being China’s top soccer goal-scorer, was totally erased from China’s media, because he publicly denounced the CCP and participated in the formation of the New Federal State of China on June 4, 2020, along with his wife Ye Zhaoying, a top-ranked professional tennis player.

These are just a few examples of those who have proved that the Chinese can achieve great success and can live a better life without the CCP’s domination and their lies. The CCP does not want to see Chinese people achieve great success unless they can somehow share in the credit of that success. The CCP wants to continue to control China’s population and force them to depend on the government. Only by taking down the evil CCP can we, the Chinese people, forge a bright future for all of our citizens.
