On January 22, 2021, at about 17:13, a middle-aged man armed with a knife killed 1 and injured 6 middle school students at the gate of the Yunnan Normal University Experimental Middle School on Jianshe Road， Wuhua District, Kunming. He took a student hostage in a confrontation with the police. The injured have been sent to hospital. The hostage-taker was killed by a police sniper at 18:40.
