All 12 deputy directors and 14 political assistants took the oath of allegiance to the Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China, witnessed by Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, at a ceremony held at the Government Headquarters this morning (Dec 16). It marked the complete loss of Hong Kong’s autonomous status and its reduction to a trophy of the Chinese Communist Party. The national anthem was sung at the ceremony and each of them took the oath facing the national and regional flags.
Apart from politically appointed officials, HKSAR Civil Service Bureau issued a circular in October this year, requiring all civil servants who joined HKSAR government on or after July 1st this year to take an oath or sign a declaration as part of their employment terms. The Civil Service Bureau will announce shortly the specific arrangements for requiring serving civil servants to sign the declaration.
It is also noted that the oath-taking ceremony for Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Departments will be held on December 18th.
Since last year, Hong Kong people have never ceased their struggle against tyranny and draconian laws. Hong Kong has become a banner in the hearts of Chinese people and the “holy city” in the Chinese world.
Hong Kong and its people have inspired all of us to fight, although the land has fallen, the spirit of Hong Kong lives on! Fight! We will take back Hong Kong!
