The Chinese People’s Armed Police (PAP) held a rank promotion ceremony for its senior officers on December 9 in Beijing, according to the news by the Ministry of National Defense of China. Gen. Wang Ning, commander of the PAP, announced the order of the Chinese Central Military Commission (CMC) to approve the promotion of one major general to lieutenant general and 36 senior colonels to major generals.

Since January 1, 2018, the PAP has been under the sole command of the CMC, chaired by President Xi Jinping. It is a move that will take away the control of PAP from local officials to ensure the CCP’s “absolute control” over the armed forces and to strengthen the “political security” of the dictator regime.
