On September 25th, 2020, an article appearing on the website http://www.ccccn.org/china/2020-09-25/69252.html, cited a Chinese textbook, “Professional Ethics and the Law,” published in mainland China for secondary adult vocational education with distorted content of Bible.

The Bible Passage

The passage under scrutiny in this book is John 8:2-11 which states, (according to the NIV version)

“At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them. The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. In the Law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him. But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground. At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” “No one, sir,” she said. “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.””

From this passage we can infer several important biblical things that the Bible clearly states. We notice that this instance was used by the teachers of the law and the Pharisees with anticipation to trap Jesus because he was perfect and the teachers wanted to find his fault and have an excuse to get rid of him. Jesus was a threat to their leadership and hypocrisy, and they wanted to rid themselves of him. We also notice that Jesus only spoke to the teachers and did NOT take action in stoning the woman and using the Law of Moses, knowing that the others would not take action against her either. In fact, Jesus knew that the woman would survive.

The Claim of the “Ethics” Book

In this book of “Professional Ethics and the Law,” the text cites John 8, it gives a completely different account of this passage. It states that Jesus picked up the stones and stoned the adulterous woman thereby implying that Jesus took action and murdered the woman himself! It states that Jesus says about himself that he is a sinner implying that Jesus is a liar rather than the almighty Son of God in other parts of scripture where He claims to be perfect!  Lastly it states that the law will be used by a perfect person and then the law will die. This statement would eventually come to be true, as Jesus lived his life under the Law of Moses and the Law of Christ did not go into effect until after his death. However, this statement has no place in John 8 when Jesus is still alive and how do we know what “perfect person” they are talking about if they just claimed that Jesus was a sinner!?

The Truth Behind the Change

Tampering the Bible is a tremendous blunder at various aspects. The CCP seeks to persuade its own godless nation away from anything that would promote value and morality. They would stoop so low as to tamper the words of the mighty and living God in order to brainwash the Chinese people into thinking that the Bible may not be a reliable or consistent way of living. The past year with protests in Hong Kong and the horrible scenes of those suffering with COVID-19 virus, we can take notice of people reaching out to their authorities for help and being turned away empty-handed, some even been punished for questioning government’s incompetence. Fair to say that a country without God or religion, that’s how the CCP wants it to remain. No religion leads to further dependence on the government, completely controlled by the Chinese Communist Party, and allows the CCP to remain selfishly in power. The CCP pines for its people to be the people of lust, power, and materialism. Their mantra of life might be, “Climbing the ladder of power and success is all that matters.”

Classes Should be Fact-Oriented; Not Opinion-Oriented

Do these classes and teachers lack any standard of authority? Who is correct in this world, if not God? We cannot allow mere humans to simply take whatever they chose in the Bible and turn it into opinion for personal gain. Classes should be taught based on what is certain and true. There should be no place in any kind of education for speculation based on selfish motives and gains. The CCP has convinced, and blackmailed many countries, political leaders, and important figures into thinking that whatever they say carries preeminent importance. What a horrible shift in the world into thinking that the CCP is huge and powerful, they must be perfectly right which couldn’t be farther from the truth.

False Teachings Will Have Consequences

Truth will always reveal itself eventually. No way we can allow this misguidance and indoctrination stand. As the Bible states, if ever anyone added or took away what is written in the Bible, would these people suffer forever. It is not to be lightly joked about. The CCP will suffer a catastrophic blow for steering people away from life-giving truths. In the meantime, we can reach out to spread the word to end the evil CCP regime that continues to plague our world with injustices.
