In the autumn of 2020, the waves of Take Down the CCP are rolling. Just before the CCP is to be wiped out, upon hearing Ms. Tang Ping’s Hong Kong, Our Jerusalem, I felt its unique sound texture and a call from her heart that gives people strength. This is the kind of power that unites the hearts of fellow fighters all over the world. Undoubtedly, singing can be a powerful weapon to condemn CCP’s malfeasance over the past seventy years.
Behold! Our warriors’ shout are flying across the Himalayas, the Xiangjiang River, the Eurasian continent, and the Pacific Ocean. With singing, they show the world a new image of the New Federal State of China, and they literally tell the Chineses Communist Party (CCP) that it shall not be our representative.
Hong Kong, Our Jerusalem is one of the four songs presented by singer Tang Ping on the founding day of the New Federal State of China on June 4, 2020. Its beginning pays homage to the song May glory be to Hong Kong, coupled with the video of today’s Hong Kong people singing May Glory be to Hong Kong and the vintage photos of old Hong Kong. In just a few seconds the pictures ingeniously annotate the turbulent and prosperous history of Hong Kong. And through the editing of such pictures, the producer cleverly reminds us that the Hong Kong revolution of anti- extraditon and anti-collectivization has been going on for more than a year now. The calamity inflicted on Hong Kong people feels like a world away. Imagine what the Hong Kong people are going through, especially those who have been arrested. They live their days like years and seemed to have been forgotten. No, no ……. We will never forget their sacrifice. This is where the motivation of this songwriting truly lies.
Listen…, “Who dyes the sky of Hong Kong red with blood? Who wets people’s eyes with shouts? Who defends Lennon’s wall with courage? Who blasts the night with candlelight? Who honors the dignity of the ancestors with order? Who uses umbrellas against the sword of brutality? Who uses the body to block the autocratic gun?” Such a series of 7 rhetorical questions pushes the song to a climax. When you catch the flash point that shakes the soul, you can feel the force that penetrates the iron curtain of CCP, just like the Israelites in Exodus who circled the city of Jericho for seven days. We will sing together, and by the seventh day, we’ll shake down the seemingly indestructible Jericho of the CCP. The power of the music can directly penetrate the heart of Zhongnanhai and smash the evil spirits of Satan. With her music craftsmanship, Ms. Tang Ping precisely captured the soul of the music. Hong Kong people use their bodies and fragile umbrellas to resist totalitarianism. The long-lasting and soul-shaking revolutionary movement has shown the world an invisible power with civilization and order that can fend off the devil. That is why the CCP had to change its strategy. As a civilized stuggle to resist the totalitarian power, Tang Ping shows her music charm to break through the sound of death. The sound seemed to burst from hell and reach heaven. Suddenly, it brings our focus back to the anti-extraditon movement in 2019.
Hong Kong, it is China’s Jerusalem. It has shown the peace-loving people around the world the confrontation between order and violence, between civilization and barbarism. It is the indestructable pearl of the Xiangjiang River. Ms. Tang launched the song Hong Kong, Our Jerusalem with the lyrics “Who upholds the order to glorify our ancestors “. It makes people freeze all of a sudden, especially when the the scenes of the cross and the people praying at the West Wall appear. To a certain extent, there is the fragrance of Christianity. As the lyrics say, “Sacrifice today only for tomorrow”. Today our body can be destroyed, but tomorrow our children and grandchildren will be free and unyielding–“Don’t be afraid of those who kill the body but can’t kill the soul” –a quote from Bible。This is the spirit and power interpreted by the song of Hong Kong Jerusalem, and this is the appeal of the Whistleblower Movement.
“Hong Kong people”… in the picture appear the backs of children leading the chanting slogans, and the parade spontaneously responds “Come on”. This is an iconic slogan. Upon watching, the viewers are all excited. And the special thing about this song is the interspersed “Hong Kong people” and “Come on!” This mashup of the child and the adult voices, allows you to see the future of Hong Kong. When CCP see it, wouldn’t it not be so frightened? Musician Mr. Tang Ping is very clever here. I believe that the producer must have made such a thoughtful arrangement, because the glory of Hong Kong in the future must be greater than that in its history.
In the end, we seem to be lifted up to the sky in the echo of “Jerusalem, God bless Hong Kong, let us sing for you”. And Ms. Tang’s sonorous and powerful “hey yeah, yeah yeah…” is somewhat a test of Rock, which strengthened the tone that the singer wants to render, We will see in the days to come that the righteous force led by the United States, following the call of God, will put the CCP on trial and bring its end.
