At Beijing time 4:30 pm., September 11, the U.S. Embassy to the PRC published a press statement by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, The Hypocrisy of the PRC’s Propaganda System, and an op-ed by U.S. Ambassador to China Terry Branstad, Resetting the Relationship Based on Reciprocity, on its official WeChat and Weibo accounts in China.
In less than 10 minutes, the post got 100 thousand views on WeChat (the maximum amount WeChat displays). At around 9 pm. that day, the posts were blocked on both platforms.
On September 9, the State Department spokesperson @Morgan Ortagus wrote on twitter,
People’s Daily responded to the Statement Department that “the United States keeps escalating political suppression and persecution against Chinese press institutions in the United States out of Cold War mentality and ideological prejudice”, the op-ed “is full of loopholes and seriously inconsistent with facts” and “does not meet the consistent standard of the People’s Daily, a prestigious, serious and professional media, for selecting and publishing articles”.
The world, including the United States, have been blindly influenced by the Chinese Communist Party’s rhetoric and propaganda for many years. As Bannon WarRoom said, it’s deep infiltration. The US. State Department’s recent actions on the CCP outlets in the U.S., if not too late, are tough and effective responses, demanding reciprocity.
However, the CCP has been ruling the Chinese people using lies, oppression and brutality for decades. They don’t want anyone to know the truth. It is the nature of a totalitarian regime. They won’t comply with the western democracies. The only way to reciprocity is to destroy the firewall and take down the CCP.
