Court Issues Restraining Order on Searches of Pro-democracy Activists’ Phones

Martin Lee, Albert Ho and Au Nok-hin etc., prominent activists of the pro-democracy camp, have been charged for organizing and initiating unauthorized assemblies on 18 August, 1 October and 20 October.

Police issued a searching warrant to all defendants, announcing in advanced that they would unlock and search their phone starting from 3 July.

Five defendants, Martin Lee, Albert Ho and Au Nok-hin, Sin Chung-kai and Yeung Sum, applied for an emergency judicial review today (4 July) to challenge the police’s searching warrants.

The court granted leave to proceed with the substantive application and injunction to ban the search suspected phones.
