More than 10,000 people gathered in Victoria Park in Causeway Bay to attend an annual candlelight vigil to mark 31 years since the Tiananmen Massacre on Thursday in defiance of a police ban.
In Mongkok, the city’s another commercial center on Kowloon side, hundreds of the people gathered for the annual event. Although the police force in Causeway Bay did not arrest anyone, the plain-cloth policemen pretended to be participants of the vigil and arrested at least 3 people by pinning them down to the ground.
Hong Kong people resisted by doxxing the policemen and circulating the pictures of the arrested on the social media, hoping to find out the identities of the arrested so that none of them will be killed by the police.
When June 4th massacre happened, many Hongkongers including late Anita Mui Yim-fong launched a set of rescuing actions to save the stranded students in Beijing. Since then, commemorating the victims on June 4th has been an annual event in the city.
