According to a story by the Daily Caller on January 19th, 2022, it talks about how the U.K. will no longer require face masks in certain situations, nor COVID-19 vaccine passports for large events, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced this Wednesday. The rules are set to begin next Thursday. Along with no longer requiring vaccine passports for large events, schools will no longer be forced to impose mask mandates on students and masks will no longer be legally required in places of public accommodation.
Many people are wondering whether these dramatic reversals of restrictions are simply a deflection from Boris Johnson’s many problems with his leadership role amid allegations of ‘partying’ and ‘mixing’ with colleagues as the rest of the country was in lockdown last year. Many politicians even his usually incredibly loyal Conservative MP’s are complaining that Boris has rules for himself and other rules for everyone else.
One surprisingly aggressive critic of the Prime Minister has been David Michael Davis a British politician who served as Shadow Home Secretary from 2003 to 2008 and as Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union from 2016 to 2018. A member of the Conservative Party, he has served as Member of Parliament for Haltemprice and Howden, formerly Boothferry, since 1987.
David Davis and the Prime Minister usually have a very good working relationship but recently Mr. Davis said this to Boris Johnson, “I expect my leaders to shoulder the responsibility for the actions they take,”. “So, I will remind him of a quotation which may be familiar to his ear: Leopold Amery to Neville Chamberlain: ‘You have sat too long here for any good you have been doing. In the name of God, go.’ “
The Prime Minister has come under a lot of criticism lately so this seemingly hurried halt of the Covid restrictions to many is simply to take away the pressure he is facing due to the ‘partying’ allegations, but also many people absolutely salute Boris for his brave and forward-looking approach to the future in particular concerning compulsory face masks, Johnson said, “we will trust the judgment of the British people and no longer criminalise anyone who chooses not to wear one.” “As Covid becomes endemic, we will need to replace legal requirements with advice and guidance, urging people with the virus to be careful and considerate of others,”.
As always we must ask ourselves is Boris Johnson the Prime Minister more concerned about doing the right thing for the people of the UK or is he desperately trying to please the people in a bid to make them forget his less than perfect choices he has made recently.
