4, Israeli vaccine expert: “We have made mistakes”
Today, the free encyclopedia UnHerd interviewed Professor Cyrille Cohen, head of the Department of Immunology at Bar-Ilan University in Israel and a member of the Israeli government’s Vaccine Advisory Committee. In this half-hour interview, the semi-official scientist speaks the truth quite frankly, admitting that “we made a mistake”, and some of the key points are as follows.
The concept of vaccine passports or Green Pass no longer works in the Omicron era and should be phased out (as he expects Israel will soon to do so).
He and his colleagues were surprised and disappointed that the vaccine did not stop the spread as they had initially hoped.
Widespread infection is now an inevitable part of the future immunity – also known as herd immunity.
Omicron has accelerated the pandemic into an endemic phase so that COVID will be “like flu”.
“Especially with Omicron, where we don’t see virtually any difference, there is a very narrow gap between people vaccinated and non-vaccinated, both can get infected with a virus, more or less at the same pace.”
“You have also to understand that the Green Pass is not necessarily — and that’s not a secret — it’s not necessarily to prevent transmission. It’s also to encourage people to get vaccinated. And I don’t want to touch upon the political aspects of the green pass. But this is a reality.”
On the risks and rewards of herd immunity:
“Herd immunity is a consequence for me. It’s not an objective, it’s not a goal. There is a thin nuance here, if I may say, that people have to grasp. I’m not saying to people go and get infected, I don’t think that this is a model that we need to adopt.”
On the acceleration from pandemic to endemic:
“I think it’s going to be like flu, I think there is going to be bad waves and better waves, with a better immunity at the level of the population, with better vaccines with better treatment. In that sense, and I’m extremely cautious, there is a possibility that Omicron will accelerate that transition.”
On vaccine mandates
“I think that vaccination is a personal choice. And I always said, I believe it is so. But that choice has some consequences. And here, there is a problem in society. If you are over 50, 60, and you’re saying I don’t want to get vaccinated, will you be, and I’m gonna ask a provocative question, will you be willing to renounce on the possibility of getting taken care of in hospitals?”
(Note: What he means is that in the event of hospital overload, the priority of emergency treatment will be prioritized according to the prognosis of the patient. Therefore, the unvaccinated will be placed at the bottom, but I believe that this is just another mistake that he has not yet realized, and in a few months, the order will probably be reversed.)
This interview could be a harbinger of the coming collapse of global vaccine mandates. Not only because of Professor Cyrille Cohen’s semi-official status but also because the video is still on Youtube. I’ve been thinking about why so many highly qualified academics and teachers, even infection doctors, are so blindly and sincerely convinced that these vaccines from dubious sources work.
I think they may have all delved too deeply into their own areas of expertise and forgotten the awe and respect that comes with delving into the realm of science. This is true in any field of science, the deeper the study, the more uncharted territory will be discovered, and it is the ignorant who will have no fear of nature.
This is especially true in the field of biology and medicine. I still remember my sense of awe when I first came across molecular biology in college. Such a complex and subtle design, not to mention that the deeper you study a layer, the trillion times more unknown areas and just one trillionth of the known areas of knowledge currently available to humans is simply not a brain can calculate and analyze. Hence, the field of biological sciences requires the application of artificial computer intelligence to analyze these big data.
It is because of this awareness of human ignorance that medicine has the medical ethic of “Do no harm. However, all this was left behind by the arrival of the pandemic, and many scientists and doctors rushed to give gene therapy injections as a lifesaver, even taking their own children with them.
As Mr. Guo said, they forgot their faiths and were just afraid of death. In fact, every scholar and scientist, with or without faith, must have had the fear of nature or God, but many people forget the ignorance of human beings, forget the kind of awe that every scientist and scholar should have, which comes from their own professional field of study.
