German Business Owners Criticize Government Vaccine Mandate

Translated by: MOS Education Team – Angelina

January 9th, Taiwan’s Liberty Times reported that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and 16 state governors mandated all restaurant and bar customers to present proofs of booster shots or negative testing results. In addition, the vaccinated and those who recovered from the CCP virus must be tested as well. Business owners criticized that it would be a disaster.

Ingrid Hartges, chairwoman of DEHOGA (Deutscher Hotel- und Gaststättenverband) said that less than 50% of Germans had received a booster. The testing centers have limited opening hours and cannot meet the demand. Such policy will bring catastrophe to businesses relying on walk-in customers.

On the 8th, protests against vaccine mandates rose across cities of Germany. There were about 13,700 in Hamburg, 5000 and 4000 in Frankfurt and Düsseldorf, respectively, some with signs of “Stop Covid Dictatorship.”
