U.S.-Japan 2+2 Video Meeting Focuses on Communist China and North Korea

Translated by: MOS Gospel Team – lilian89

A 2+2 meeting between the U.S. and Japanese defense and foreign ministers was held on January 7. The topics of the meeting included the continued provocations of Communist China in the Asia-Pacific region and the Taiwan Strait, and the threat of North Korea in regional security. On the 5th of this month, North Korea test-fired a suspected new hypersonic missile into the Sea of Japan.

At the meeting, the U.S. and Japan signed an agreement on cooperative research on defense equipment aimed at countering hypersonic missiles from Communist China and North Korea.

The meeting discussed the division of responsibilities between the U.S. and Japan, and cooperation between the two sides on new security areas such as space, cyber, and electromagnetic waves. Sources said the discussion also touched on the possibility of giving Japan “the ability to attack enemy bases”.

Analysts say the U.S. is gradually unblocking Japan in the face of threats from Communist China and North Korea.
