On New Year’s Day 2022, Melbourne emergency services were called to Church Street in Richmond around 8 p.m. that night, where a car has burst into flames, according to Rebel News.

Officers doused the man with water in a desperate situation before pinning him to the ground and arranging for ambulance escort to the hospital.

According to the Herald Sun, a woman who helped rescue the man said “I saw skin burning until the fire was doused with water on him”. The woman also said the man’s skin was so badly burned that it stuck to her shirt.

Witnesses at the scene said a man set himself on fire in Melbourne’s inner city while crying out about Victoria’s vaccine mandate, shouting “vaccine passport” and “vaccine mandate” before setting himself on fire.

Diners at nearby restaurants were shocked by the scene, and one of them saw the man deliberately cover himself and his car with gasoline before setting himself on fire.

He was yelling, ‘The (government) vaccine is mandatory, I don’t want a vaccination certificate, throw away the certificate,'” the witness said.
