On Nov 27th local time, the Japanese media reported that U.S. and Japan will start a two-week joint military drill once again in Aomori-ken, a prefecture of Japan in the Tōhoku region, on Dec 4th. Previously, Japan Ground Self-Defense Force has just finished the largest military maneuver over the past 28 years that targets CCP, which lasted two months and mobilized a hundred thousand troops.
The report also referred to the first use of the state-of-the-art High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) in mainland Japan during this U.S.-Japan joint military drill. Meanwhile, in response to the missile threat posed by CCP, both sides will take the manual of Expeditionary Advanced Base Operations (EABO) as the model. The manual will help both parties simulate the scenario, when wartime takes place around the outer island of Okinawa in the southernmost tip of Japan, how HIMARS of the U.S. marine corps and the land-based Anti-Ship missiles of Japan Self-Defense Forces will be united to confront CCP together.
Other reports mentioned that Japan Ground Self-Defense Force would dispatch 1,400 soldiers while the U.S. marine corps would deploy 2,650 soldiers during this joint military maneuver.
General Yoshihide Yoshida, Chief of Staff of the Japan Ground Self-Defense, also pointed out in the relevant report, that the focus of this drill is the cooperative engagement capability (CEC) in space, cyber and electromagnetic areas, as well as the operational concept of implementing EABO.
