Shinzo Abe Says Taiwan Will Trigger Japan-U.S. Alliance

Translated by: MOS Translation Team – Lakers

In a speech at a forum hosted by Taiwan’s National Policy Institute, a think tank, former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe declared on December 1 local time that Japan cannot allow Taiwan to be at risk of being violated by Chinese Communist forces.

Shinzo Abe said that a state of emergency in Taiwan is equivalent to a state of emergency in Japan, which is the same as a state of emergency for the Japan-U.S. alliance. At the same time, Abe warned Xi Jinping who must not misjudge the situation – the CCP is heading for economic suicide if it proceeds with military adventures.

Abe mentioned that Japan’s outlying islands, such as the Senjima and Yonaguni Islands, are only about 100 kilometers from Taiwan. Therefore, if the Chinese Communist Party violates Taiwan by force, it is also a major threat to Japan’s national territory and Japan cannot permit it.

Abe also suggested that the Chinese Communist Party’s military spending has increased 42 times over the past 30 years, and is even four times higher than Japan’s.  For this reason, Taiwan and Japan must strengthen their economic and military power and continuously demonstrate their power to counterbalance the CCP, and must repeatedly convince the CCP to resolve disputes in a rational and peaceful manner.
