In a story by Taiwan News on November 27th, 2021, it talks of how The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) expressed gratitude to the multiple countries who support Taiwan’s inclusion into the global police agency namely Interpol. At this year’s Interpol meeting, which was held in Turkey from Nov. 23rd-25th, 11 countries backed Taiwan’s participation in the global police agency. They all affirmed Taiwan’s substantial contributions to fighting transnational crime and responding to global security challenges, according to a MOFA press release.
Taiwan has received lots of praise lately for all the good work in combatting crime both at home and on a world stage, a total of 630 politicians from 35 countries have voiced support for Taiwan’s inclusion in the organisation, also 71 U.S. representatives, penned a letter to U.S. President Joe Biden requesting him to take specific measures to assist Taiwan’s accession to Interpol.
Many countries believe that they are in between a rock and a hard place, as siding with Taiwan seems to be the right thing to do, but by siding with Taiwan it will infuriate China and potentially have a detrimental effect on business. Communist China acts like little spoilt children when individuals and especially countries take the side of Taiwan, but being on the right side of history is far more important than pandering to a totalitarian regime.
