After the United States, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is now considering a “diplomatic boycott” of the Beijing Winter Olympics in protest of the Chinese Communist Party’s human rights abuses against its people, Deutsche Welle reported on Nov. 20.

According to reports, there is now active discussion within the British government about whether to send only ambassadors to Communist China, rather than British ministers, to attend the Winter Olympics. The proposal has the support of British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss.

Truss has always taken a tougher stance on China than her predecessor, Dominic Raab. She has accused the Chinese Communist Party of committing genocide.

In addition, Deutsche Welle, citing the British newspaper The Times, reported that five Conservative politicians have also sent a letter to Johnson urging him to ban any official British diplomatic representatives from attending the Winter Olympics in Beijing next February. Before that, U.S. President Joe Biden confirmed on Nov. 18 that the United States was considering a diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Winter Olympics.
