Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez led a delegation on a state visit to Taiwan from November 12 to 14.

On Nov 13, President Tsai Ing-wen met with members of the delegation of Mr. and Mrs. Hernandez at the Presidential Palace. Hernandez said the purpose for leading the delegation to visit Taiwan was to express sincere gratitude to the government of the Republic of China on behalf of the government and people of Honduras and to demonstrate the close ties between the two countries with tangible actions, in particular amid the Chinese Communist Regime’s smear campaigns and military intimidation against the people of Taiwan, causing tension in the region.

This year, Taiwan and Honduras celebrated their 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations, and the two sides agreed to further enhance bilateral relations in the fields of commercial trade, education, science and technology, and others. On the evening of Nov 14, Hernandez and other members, a group of 11, left Taiwan aboard a China Airlines flight, concluding a three-day visit to Taiwan.

In response to Honduras’ state visit to Taiwan, the Chinese Communist Party used its official media outlets to brazenly disseminate fake news such as the alleged “Dollar Diplomacy,” as well as sending several military planes to fly around the Taiwan Strait displaying threats day and night.
