On October 26, for national security reasons, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) voted to revoke the authorization for the U.S. operations of the U.S. subsidiary of Communist China Telecom 0728.HK.
According to Reuters, the FCC noted that CCP Telecom is subject to the use, influence and control of the CCP government and is most likely forced to comply with the CCP government’s demands without being subject to the full legal process of independent judicial oversight.
The FCC added that China Telecom Americas is owned and controlled by the CCP government, providing the company and the CCP government with the opportunity to “access, store, interfere with, and/or misdirect U.S. communications,” thereby posing significant national security and law enforcement risks.
The Commission voted that day to adopt an order “terminating the ability of China Telecom Americas to provide domestic interstate and international telecommunications services within the United States” and requiring China Telecom Americas to cease service within 60 days of the order’s issuance.
