(Reuters) Beijing/Taipei, October 17-The Chinese military on Sunday condemned the United States and Canada for sending their warships through the Taiwan Strait last week, saying they are threatening peace and stability in the region.
The US military stated that on Thursday and Friday, the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Dewey and the Canadian frigate USS Winnipeg sailed through the Taiwan Strait. This action demonstrates the commitment of the United States and its allies to safeguard freedom and openness in the Indo-Pacific region.
Communist China’s PLA Eastern Theatre Command stated that its troops have conducted strict monitoring while the ships are passing by, and are ready to respond at any time.
U.S. Navy ships pass through the Taiwan Strait approximately every month, and its allies occasionally send ships through the strait, including Britain last month and Canada this time.
While the CCP condemns other countries, Chinese military planes have entered Taiwan Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ) many times over the past year. At least 150 aircraft had been sent to harass the ADIZ during October 1-5.
Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence said on Sunday that recently the Chinese Communist Party sent two F-16 fighter jets and an anti-submarine aircraft to fly into the ADIZ again.
