On October 7, Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen honored the former French Minister of Defense Alain Richard for “his contributions to Taiwan-France relations.” The former minister led an effort in the French Senate to pass a resolution in support of allowing Taiwan to participate in international organizations like the World Health Organization.

This time, Sen. Richard led a delegation of French senators to visit Taiwan. Tsai reiterated that Taiwan will work hard to fulfil its responsibilities as an international member to ensure peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and the Indo-Pacific region.

The visit to Taiwan by the French Senate’s Taiwan Friendship Group demonstrated that the EU countries are highly concerned about the situation in Taiwan and support Taiwan against the threat of the CCP. This has become the consensus of world’s democratic countries. Moreover, former Senator Richard, despite the threats and obstructions of the CCP, for the third time led a delegation to visit Taiwan. Therefore, Tsai Ing-wen said that the award of “the Order of Propitious Clouds” to Sen. Richard not only recognizes his contribution to the Taiwan-France relationship, but also expresses her deepest gratitude to him on behalf of the Taiwanese people.
