On Oct. 6, Taiwan’s Defense Minister Chiu Kuo-cheng went to the Legislative Yuan for questioning, saying that the current tensions in the Taiwan Strait are the most serious in his more than 40 years in the military and warning of the risk of a gunfight in the Taiwan Strait.

According to VOA, Chiu Kuo-cheng said in the Legislative Yuan on the 6th that the CCP has the ability to invade Taiwan right now, but will not start a war easily considering many other factors. But he said the Chinese Communist Party’s ability to invade Taiwan “fully” by 2025 while minimizing costs and attrition is an emergency that is just around the corner.

Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense sent to the Legislative Yuan on May 5 a report on the NT$240 billion (US$8.6 billion) special budget for the Air and Sea Battlefield Enhancement Program procurement, 64% of which will be used to acquire Taiwan’s own variety of sea and anti-ship weapons in response to the rapidly increasing landing capability of the Chinese Communist Party’s People’s Liberation Army.

On the same day, Taiwan President Tsai Ing-Wen vowed that Taiwan would do its utmost to defend itself in the event of a threat. And it warned the world that “the loss of Taiwan would not only be a catastrophe for the people of Taiwan, but would also dismantle the security architecture that has allowed for more than 70 years of peace and remarkable economic development.”

Since the CCP regime’s National Day on October 1, the CCP has sent nearly 150 military aircraft to disturb Taiwan.

The incident has also sparked widespread concern in the international community, and the United States, Japan and Australia have made public statements about it, including the Pentagon, which said in a statement on the 4th that “we will continue to help Taiwan maintain adequate self-defense capabilities,” indicating that the U.S. security commitment to Taiwan is “rock solid” and will help maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and the region.
