As reported by The Hindo on October 3rd, 2021, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) soldiers have been seen with an increased number of transgressions and on a much higher scale over the disputed China-India border area, causing concerns for the Indian Defence Ministry Officials.
As per data given by the Indian Defence Ministry in 2019, there were 326 transgressions along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) by the PLA in 2018, 426 in 2017, and 273 in 2016, while the number of transgressions in 2019 was close to 600.
The LAC is divided into the western (Ladakh), the middle (Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand), Sikkim, and the eastern (Arunachal Pradesh) sectors. While the majority of the transgressions by the PLA in the last five years have been in the western sector, there is an increasing trend of transgressions in the eastern and middle sectors.
To best defend the border and the country, Indian Defence Ministry Officials have long been suggesting a joint mechanism, a better operational synergy between the Indian Army and the Indian-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), which are co-located along the LAC, be in place.
