According to Deutsche Welle on September 20 at 6:40 a.m early that day, officers from the National Security Division of the Chinese Communist Party’s Hong Kong Police arrested three members of the student organization Student Politicism. They are the convener Wang Yizhan, secretary-general Chen Hoxson, and other. The police also searched the organization’s Kwai Chung warehouse.  The arrest was allegedly for “inciting subversion of state power.” At the same time, the State Security Department also went to the residences of the spokesperson of Student Politicism, Wong Yuen-lin, the former spokesperson, Chu Wai-ying, and other members of the organization, asking them to assist in the investigation.

Student Politicism was founded in May last year as a student organization of the Hong Kong local faction. In an interview with the media, its convenor, Wang Yizhan, said that testing the red line of the regime is the value of the organization’s existence. After the National Security Law came into effect, Student Politicism was not disbanded. Wang Yizhan himself was arrested several times for setting up a booth in Mongkok to promote resistance against the dictatorial Communist government.

Under the National Security Law, the Hong Kong Communist Party police have been carrying out retrospective settlements and arresting specific pro-democracy figures and members of organizations. This year, in addition to targeting influential organizations such as the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China, they have also arrested members and former members of various student organizations such as the Student Union and Convocation of the University of Hong Kong, the “City of Light” and the “Student Politicism,” further suppressing the space for Hong Kong people to pursue freedom, democracy, and the rule of law.
