The Foreign Correspondents’ Club of China said that Los Angeles Times and BBC staff members and others received death threats and intimidating messages and calls, because of reporting on floods in Henan province, China last week.
The professional group of Beijing-based journalists stated on Twitter that it is “concerned to witness the recent online and offline harassment of journalists covering devastating floods.”The province’s Communist Youth League asked its 1.6 million social media followers to help locate the whereabouts of a Shanghai BBC reporter who was harassed online, the group said.
Besides, a LA Times reporter and another foreign journalist were recently surrounded by angry residents while covering the flooding in Zhengzhou and accused of “smearing China” and “spreading rumors.”
